Northern Green Fuels Oy is a pioneer in the production and development of renewable methanol and SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel).
The Green Methanol Production Concept
A unique combination of three proven technologies:
- Biomass Gasification – A renewable source of carbon
- Electrolytic Hydrogen – Renewable hydrogen from water
- Methanol Synthesis – Carbon and hydrogen are synthesized into renewable methanol
Benefits and Competitive Advantages
- Up to 86% reduction in CO₂ emissions
- One-third lower production costs compared to traditional e-methanol, which uses point-source CO₂
- Independent of subsidies
- Rapidly growing marine fuel market
- NeF’s unique production concept combines biomass gasification and electrolytic hydrogen into a methanol synthesis process—merging three established industrial technologies
- The result is a cost-effective and sustainable clean fuel solution—without reliance on government support
- Production capacity can exceed 300,000 tons per plant annually—scalable and competitive
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) – The Aviation Fuel of the Future
What is SAF?
SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) is a renewable aviation fuel that can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 80% compared to fossil-based alternatives. It is produced from renewable methanol, which is converted into synthetic hydrocarbons via the methanol-to-jet (MTJ) process.
Why SAF from NeF?
Because NeF produces renewable methanol in-house, we are uniquely positioned in the SAF market. Our production capacity can exceed 120,000 tons of SAF per plant annually—scalable and cost-competitive.
